DAISY and BEE Awards
MHRRTP DAISY/BEE Display
Thanking a caregiver is one way to help the often forgotten get through their shift. While not expected, some kind word or thanks is appreciated by all.
The Tomah VA Medical Central is providing Veterans, family members or other guest opportunities to recognize exceptional caregivers. The DAISY Award and The BEE Award are recognition programs thanking caregivers who demonstrate extraordinary compassion and kindness while caring for our Veterans. Nominations displayed throughout the Tomah facility and Community Based Outreach Clinics. The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation, was formed in 1999 by the family of Patrick Barnes following his death of complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP).
Recently, various units decorated their areas with daisy and bee themed items. All employees were asked to vote on their favorite decorations.
Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP) garnered first place in the competition and the unit will received cinnamon rolls in memory of Barnes. The following units were also awarded:
- First runner up – 403A/403 AN
- Second runner up – 404 Mental Health Outpatient Clinic
- Third runner up – 400 Acute Medical
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses distinguishes a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse who provides excellent clinical care as well as compassion and kindness. The BEE Award was created to recognize exceptional caregivers in non-licensed nursing roles.
