Manna from Heaven
Hole #4 at the Irish Waters Golf Course.
Sometimes when you expect something the leastess it shows up the mostess. This was certainly the case on Friday, July 8 when we received a wonderful donation from the Irish Waters Golf Club in Freedom, Wisconsin for $3,723.50!
“It was like manna from heaven,” said Laura Bishop, Voluntary Services Coordinator at the Tomah VA Medical Center. “It will be the perfect way to out-right purchase a much-needed sixth golf cart for our course.”
The Tomah VA has a 9 hole golf course on campus that is open to the public and is also used therapeutically for Veterans in need. Earlier this year, Golf instructors from the North American Amputee Golf Association (NAGA) http://www.nagagolf.org/ visited the Tomah VA and provided instruction to therapists and Veterans encouraging them to learn or re-learn the game of golf.
“We wanted to have a tournament as a benefit for some good cause, but didn’t really know what cause to champion,” said Chad Weihbrecht, co-owner of the Irish Waters Golf Club with his brother Jim. “Then a friend of a close buddy came home from overseas with PTSD. I talked to him after he’d received treatment at the Tomah VA PTSD program and how it had helped him. He also told me about the golf course and how he had enjoyed it.”
The check was accompanied with this letter:
Irish Waters Golf Club in Freedom, Wisconsin realizes the sacrifices that have been made by the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve their country. It is a sacrifice that is deeply appreciated by the staff members here at Irish Waters. To show our support for those individuals who have served our country and have returned from their duties that may have created some personal suffering, we have held a benefit to raise money to assist some of the programs that these veterans have at their disposal during the recuperation process.
Please accept the enclosed check to be used towards the Veterans Golf Course at your facility. Our hearts go out to those that have served and now suffer and this is but a small token of our appreciation for their sacrifice for us.
We would like to thank you for allowing us to do our part to help out in the healing process for the members that use your facility.
