New Vans for Veterans
Curtis Gibeaut, former DAV Hospital Service Coordinator; Sandy Gregar, Associate Director; volunteer driver Richard Fear; Jim Conn, VA Transportation Supervisor; and volunteer driver Donald Askenette.
The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) donated two new vehicles worth over $49,000 for the DAV Transportation Network. Volunteers drove to DAV National Headquarters in Cold Spring, Kentucky in June to bring the new vans back to Wisconsin. The 12 passenger van will be used by Tomah VA drivers, who drive to the Madison VA every day; the Ford Flex will be used by Wausau-based volunteers, bringing Veterans to the Tomah VA or Madison VA. The donation is worth a total of over $49,000.
The DAV Transportation Network is a volunteer-based program that provides free transportation to Veterans who have appointments at VA facilities. Tomah VA has vehicles located in Tomah, Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point, Wausau, La Crosse and Crawford County. The program utilizes over 90 volunteers who support the six van locations, donating over 9,500 hours per year.
Veterans needing rides to their VA appointments can call 1 800 872-8662 ext. 66227 to make their reservation.
