Hall of Heroes Nominations Open!
With little fanfare, but great enthusiasm, a team of interested staff members have joined together to form the Hall of Heroes working group. Their challenge is to revize a program that has been impacted by the pandemic by returning it to a place where it can continue well into the future.
One of the first tasks facing the group was revising the standard operationg procedures for the group. This included a review of existing Hall of Heroes inductees, prior nomination criteria, and establishing a new timetable for the nomination and selection processes.
The Tomah Hall of Heroes program honors the heroic efforts of Veteran patients who receive, or have received, care within the Tomah VAMC main campus location or any of its four community-based outpatient clinics in Clark County (Owen), La Crosse, Wausau, or Wisconsin Rapids.
Criteria for induction includes two paths of heroic service accomplishment. One for Veterans who have been decorated with a military award and citation for heroism or valor and another for recognition of demonstrated heroic activity within the community. Specific nomination details and the nomination form are available on the Tomah VAMC home page.
Each hero inductee is honored with a framed photograph and information about their personal award for heroism or valor or documented heroic community service. You can visit the Hall of Heroes in the tramway between building 400 and building 401. The Hall of Heroes serves as a continuing tribute to Veterans who have truly gone above and beyond.
