Tomah VA Medical Center

Volunteer or Donate

Tomah VA Medical Center provides many services to the Veterans in the region. Through the generosity of our benefactors and volunteers, we are able to supplement these services and increase the quality of life for our local Veterans.

Voluntary Slide Show

Volunteers provide many important functions throughout the Medical Center and help make our patients' stay more enjoyable. Volunteers can perform a number of services, and a volunteer's talents are closely matched with one of our many assignments. The Tomah VA and its outpatient clinics have about 300 regular scheduled volunteers in various assignments including:  volunteer drivers, loving spoonfuls, recreation, patient visitor, adaptive sports (archery, golf, cycling, power soccer), patient escort, greeter, coffee cart, No Veteran Dies Alone (NVDA), Honor Escort, clerical assistant, roads and grounds, pet therapy visits, gymnasium/library/bowling alley attendant and many more. Our volunteers are a valuable supplemental addition to the staff and are considered “without compensation” (WOC) employees of the hospital.

To volunteer, call or visit the VAMC Tomah Voluntary Service Office located in building 407, room 1739. Prior to volunteering, interested persons must undergo background check/fingerprint screening, clear TB test, complete an application and attend new volunteer orientation. We look forward to discussing how you can help us in our mission to provide comfort and care to America's Veterans.

Groups interested in providing service at Tomah VA should complete the Group Application and return it to the Voluntary Services Office.

Monetary and non-monetary donations are used for the comfort and welfare of our Veterans. Just as the gift of time from a volunteer is needed, non-monetary items are also appreciated. Our list of needs changes frequently, so please contact us to discuss accepted donations. Voluntary Service is responsible for providing safe and clean donations to our Veterans. Items that do not meet these criteria will be refused. A list of non-monetary items we are currently accepting can be found here.
